The stolen possessions of the deportees were referred to as "personal effects" (Effekten) by the concentration camp administration. The SS stored the murdered Jews' property in facilities known as "personal effects rooms" (Effektenkammer) and "personal effects warehouses“ (Effektenlager), where it was sorted by prisoner work detachments, packed, and distributed to the German population.
